Cosmo was the character portrayed by Ronnie Nyakale in old Generations and Generations: The Legacy. In this article we talk about Cosmo and why he left Generations.
Why did Cosmo leave Generations?
Cosmo left Generations because his character became too simple for him to portray. He stated that he tried to explain to the producer about his character, but nothing changed.
On a podcast with Israel Matseke, he said that he was going to sleep without practicing his lines. He already knew Cosmo’s character, and he wanted something challenging for him.
“Cosmo was starting to become simple for me. He wasn’t offering any challenges. I sat down with my producer and told him that this could be dangerous for my career. It got to a point where I was going to bed without even learning my lines,” Nyakale shared.
“I wasn’t feeling the pain of an actor stepping into the shoes of a character anymore. It was like I knew everything about Cosmo.”
“I was trying to communicate this for three consecutive years. Remember, I didn’t have the power to tell them what to do. My original goal was to be on Generations for just seven years.”
He further explained that he left because he wanted to explore other opportunities outside of Generations. And one of the reasons to be part of Generations was for him to gain exposure. So it was high time for him to leave.
“The show gave me a second chance. It was there to open more doors for me,” said the former Yizo Yizo star. (1)

How long did Cosmo act in Generations?
It has been 10 years since Cosmo joined Generations. After the scandals in Generations for increasing salaries, he never left. I guess he was okay with the payment. He continued with Generations: The Legacy until the time he decided to leave.
His contract was supposed to be 7 years, and it was renewed for 3 years. In those three years, he managed to talk to the producer to improve his character according to his standard. Unfortunately, they could not do anything.
What happened after he left Generations?
After leaving Generations The Legacy, Cosmo was seen by the viewers driving Uber. They were shocked but eventually came to understand that it was a side hustle.
Later he bagged a role to act in House of Zwide, where he portrayed a character named Sizwe.
